Top-ranked Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She received nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
