The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
