Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after leading disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder

Both men had previous conflict before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
