Los Angeles experienced widespread celebrations after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-game World Series championship. Fans across the globe joined local residents in jubilation, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Crowds
Local celebrations included a downtown parade on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Online footage depict thousands of Los Angeles residents packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, raising the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani stated through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube driving a light blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Festivities started prior to the parade, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of the city center on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke directly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
However, the team owner was met with a less warm welcome at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of applause and boos, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for Los Angeles. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year demonstrated as much if not more enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
