Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Leader Departs Following Move Into Chicken.

The chief executive of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who suggested the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while diversifying the company into fried chicken has been replaced after conflicts with its governing body.

Executive Shake-Up

Andrew Rennie is exiting after only 24 months in the top role, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's searches for a long-term chief.

Rennie, who served at Domino's for over 20 years, had attempted to shift Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards poultry-based products, stating in a recent interview there was not “massive growth” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He said chicken was the most rapidly expanding menu item in the globe.

Board Friction

Sources suggest that there was friction between the CEO and the governance team over his strategy and direction, although Domino's announcement said he was departing “by mutual agreement”.

Recent Brand Launch

In the autumn, Domino's launched its chicken-focused offering – which Rennie described as a “bold new chapter” for the organization – and is trialling it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its nearly 1,400 branches in 2026 as scheduled, it views chicken products as a supplement for its main pizza offerings.

Board Comment

Ian Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and value creation in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on identifying the right chief executive to lead the disciplined execution of that development approach.”

Industry Challenges

Earlier this month, Domino's, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said orders fell by one and a half percent in the third quarter. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the period before the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for weaker-than-expected sales and a significant fall in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also struggling. Another major chain disclosed the shutting of 68 restaurants a last month, after the firm behind its British operations entered insolvency.

Health Efforts

Adapting to consumer trends towards balanced diets, Domino's has launched light items, such as its thin-crust selection of bakes below 400 calories as well as vegan and allergy-friendly pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a personal has 909 calories.

Acting Leadership

The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and previously worked for the gambling company a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to take on the chief executive role on a full-time basis.

She said: “The company has a number of active growth and operational projects that we will be dedicated to implementing at a rapid rate.”

She added these comprised additional efforts on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its customer retention initiative.

Domino's is also without a long-term CFO until the spring, when a new appointee starts from the drinks company C&C Group. In the meantime, Richard Snow serves as interim finance chief.
