Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the pair.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can finally put my grief into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced spending more time together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "one day without laughter".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to bar the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the cases to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of homicide, with a official listing noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public personalities shared varying responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making provocative remarks that were met with immediate backlash by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors recently. Conversing on his program, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they showed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an associate could have intervened when the choice to comment on the death was made.
